3 Ribbon Types

Ribbon ink is an essential component used in various types of printers to produce text, images, and graphics on paper or other materials. It plays an important role in high-quality printing, including barcodes, label stickers, tags, and product labels. Ribbon ink can be printed on a variety of surfaces and materials, depending on its type and formulation.

1

Wax Ribbon

Wax is the most widely used ribbon type because it is more affordable than other ribbon formulations. It is commonly used with matte white and semi-gloss labels and is suitable for general-purpose printing where long-term durability and environmental resistance are not required. The print is relatively easy to scratch or rub off, making it ideal for applications such as product information labels, price labels, shipping labels, clothing tags, and other general-purpose labels.

2

Wax/Resin Ribbon

Wax/Resin is commonly used for applications requiring greater print durability and sharper print quality. It offers better resistance to scratching and can be used with water-resistant materials and labels that require good heat resistance. It is particularly suitable for glossy label materials such as PVC, Foil, and UPO. Common applications include pharmaceutical labels, export product labels, and labels for refrigerated food products with product details and pricing.

3

Resin Ribbon

Resin is a relatively expensive ribbon type, so it is less commonly used. However, it offers the highest resistance to scratching, abrasion, and harsh environments, including extreme temperatures and chemicals. It can also produce durable prints on difficult-to-print materials, making it ideal for manufacturing, industrial applications, and asset labeling. Resin Ribbon is compatible with all types of label materials.
