12 Label Materials

Semi-Gloss TT Label

This is the most commonly used label material due to its affordable price and versatility. It is suitable for general applications such as price tags and product information labels, especially for fast-moving products. It should be used in normal environments without excessive moisture or heat. It is not resistant to scratching, and the print may fade or wear over time. The label can also be torn easily and has a slightly glossy finish. It is most commonly paired with Wax Ribbon, which is also the most economical ribbon option, helping to keep overall product costs as low as possible.

Matte White VL Label

Another popular label material with a price comparable to semi-gloss labels. It is suitable for a wide range of general applications and offers similar overall properties to semi-gloss labels. The main difference is its completely matte, non-glossy surface. It is also commonly used with Wax Ribbon.

Glossy White (Art Paper) AM Label

This is a glossy label material that provides a sharp, attractive appearance. It can withstand slightly humid environments and is ideal for products where a high-quality, visually appealing finish is desired. It is commonly used with two types of ribbon: Wax and Wax/Resin, depending on the customer’s application requirements.

PP Matte (UPO) Label

This is a durable plastic label material that is tear-resistant and waterproof. It is available in both glossy and matte finishes. It is relatively expensive because it is made from plastic rather than paper. It is suitable for food industry applications, cold storage environments, and asset labeling. It is commonly used with two types of ribbon: Wax/Resin and Resin, depending on the customer’s application requirements.

Direct Thermal (DT) Label

This is a heat-sensitive label material that does not require an ink ribbon for printing. The paper contains chemicals that react to heat, causing the surface to change color when heated by the printhead. Direct Thermal labels are typically more expensive than standard label materials because they do not require an ink ribbon. They are commonly used for short-term applications, such as medicine packets and consumer goods labels, as the material can be affected by heat and UV exposure.

Foil (FL) Label

This is a thick, gray-colored label material with a relatively high price, making it more suitable for specialized applications. Its durable properties make it ideal for applications requiring long-lasting labels, such as asset labeling and automotive or industrial applications. It offers excellent heat resistance and is highly resistant to scratching and abrasion. It is commonly paired with Resin Ribbon, which provides similarly high resistance to scratching and wear.

Matte White TP (Transfer) Label

This label features a smooth, off-white surface with a refined appearance. Its exceptionally smooth finish makes it ideal for pre-printed labels or labels with custom colors printed at the factory, providing sharp and high-quality results. It is commonly used with two types of ribbon: Wax and Wax/Resin, depending on the customer’s application requirements.

Clear PVC (PP Clear) Label

This is a transparent plastic label material that allows the surface underneath to show through. It is highly durable, tear-resistant, and waterproof. It is relatively expensive because it is made from plastic rather than paper. It is ideal for cosmetics and premium product labels where a luxurious appearance is desired. It is commonly used with Wax/Resin and Resin Ribbon, depending on the application requirements.

PVC Label

PVC labels are highly durable and are commonly used for applications exposed to water, rain, and prolonged sunlight. They are more expensive than paper labels and are suitable for a wide range of applications, including logo stickers, appliance labels, oil container labels, water bottle labels, automotive glass stickers, and advertising stickers. They are 100% waterproof and can withstand temperatures of approximately 40–60°C. However, prolonged exposure to temperatures above 40°C may cause the material to shrink or develop wrinkles.

PP Label

This label material is highly durable and offers even greater resistance to water and moisture than PVC labels. It has a smooth, attractive finish and is ideal for general product labeling applications, such as facial cream bottles, shampoo bottles, and conditioner bottles. It is 100% waterproof and can withstand temperatures of up to 90°C.

PET Label

This label material offers excellent heat resistance, making it ideal for applications involving high temperatures. It is suitable for labeling electrical appliances and other products that require resistance to heat and water. It is 100% waterproof and can withstand temperatures of approximately 140–200°C.

Polyimide (PI) Label

This label material is designed for use on electronic circuit boards and can withstand a wide temperature range from -73°C to +260°C. It offers excellent flame resistance, high electrical insulation, exceptional stability, and high dielectric strength.
